Special force officer killed during apprehension of police officer's shooter near Almaty

    An officer fr om a special rapid reaction unit has been killed during a special operation in the Yermenssai Village of the Almaty Oblast, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing an official from the Investigations Department of the Almaty Oblast Interior Department, Saltanat Azirbek.
    She said an 80-y.o. resident from one of gardening communities of the Alatau Village had called the police on the evening of June 11.
    She reported her 63-y.o. neighbor was attacking passersbys and throwing an axe, a shovel and rocks at them.
    Following the call, local police officer Shakir Mussakhunov arrived at the scene, but the man refused to talk to the officer and started throwing shovels and axes at him. He then shot at the officer with a sawed-off shotgun. The officer was delivered to the hospital with multiple shell wounds in his neck and back.
    “The shooter lived in his garden house alone; he was always aggressive and has had conflicts with neighbors. It was also confirmed that a day before the incident he had a fight with an elderly neighbor and shot at the windows of her house out wh ere her granddaughter was staying. The girl managed to dodge the shot and was not wounded,” Azirbek said.
    Later the same day 25 search groups were organized and searched in 174 dacha looking for the shooter.
    “Early in the morning, Vladimir Ryabtsev was discovered at an abandoned house. Hiding in the auxiliary building, he suddenly shot at an officer from the Arlan Special Forces Division -- Police Captain Yerzhan Akhmetov.
    Another officer next to him shot the armed man who died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. Unfortunately, Captain Akhmetov had also incurred a fatal wound and died later in the hospital, according to www.tengrinews.kz.
