The Kazakh embassy in Kyrgyzstan has urged the Kyrgyz authorities to take immediate measures to resume the water supply through the Bystrotok channel in the cross-border area, which was blocked by residents of the Kyrgyz Talas region on July 7, the embassy said Tuesday.
"The illegal activity which contradicted earlier reached agreements on trans-border water resources and common standards of international law have led to a lack of water, not only in the Kazakh Zhambyl Oblast’s Zhualynskiy District, but also in the Kyrgyz villages located lower near the channel," the embassy said.
According to the embassy, the situation at the interstate Bystrotok water channel contradicts the Eternal Friendship Treaty from April 8, 1997 and the Treaty on Alliance Relations from December 25, 2003 between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, Trend states.
