Former Statistics Agency chief appeals extradition decision

    The former director of the Kazakh Statistics Agency, Anar Meshimbayeva has appealed the decision of the Russian Prosecutor General for her to be extradited to Kazakhstan, the Official Spokesperson to Kazakhstan's Prosecutor General's Office Nurdaulet Suindikov said Tuesday at a briefing in Astana.
    "A decision on Meshimbayeva’s extradition from Moscow is being carried out. There is a decision from the Prosecutor General's Office to extradite her to Kazakhstan, which she is currently appealing," Suindikov said.
    Meshimbayeva is accused of embezzling 764.8 million tenge, which was allocated for the national census.
    In 2009, she was put on the international wanted list. Meshimbayeva was detained in Moscow in February 2013, Trend reports.
