An electric locomotive has collided with a Almaty-Karaganda passenger train while the train was loading at the Almaty-1 Train Station.
The accident happened at 03:45 p.m. on August 6, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Semirechinsk Transport Prosecutor’s Office.
8 people were injured in the accident. Four were delivered to a hospital with bruises and closed head traumas.
After some medical check, one of the victims was sent to the Neurosurgery Department at Hospital No.7.
None of the train carriages were damaged. The passenger train left the station with a one hour delay.
Initially it was reported by investigators the accident was caused by a brake failure. But later, the Semirechinsk Transport Prosecutors Office said it was human error rather than a technical malfunction.
According to the prosecutors, the locomotive's driver used only two out of four braking gears, which is why the emergency brake application did not work.
A criminal case has been opened and will end in 2 months, officers say.
This is the second train accident that involves collision of trains in Almaty in one month, www.tengrinews.kz wrote.
