Health Ministry ourges Kazakhs to refrain from travelling to Kyrgyzstan over bubonic plague

    The Ministry of Health has urged Kazakh citizens to refrain from travelling to Kyrgyzstan due to the recent case of bubonic plague, Tengrinews.kz reports.
    The ministry said steps have already been taken to protect people from the plague, and protection zones were already set up in April 2013, disinfection and epidemiological activities are being carried out on in the areas affected. 113,000 people had been vaccinated for the plague.
    The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan has tightened control on the border of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
    Monitoring of persons crossing the border, training exercises with relevant government agencies and departments, public outreach activities to public were conducted at border crossing points across the border in the Zhambyl and Almaty oblasts ever since August 24, 2013 to prevent the introduction and spread of the plague in the country, officials state, CA-News said.
