25.09.2013
Residents of the cities of Astana and Almaty will receive warnings on emergencies through loudspeakers to be installed in the streets in 2015, STV Channel reports.
According to the Almaty Eity Emergencies Department, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan plans to modernize the entire alarm system.
"The existing alarm system covers only 75% of the public. The installation of the new voice alarm system will provide for split-second distribution of information on emergencies throughout the city. Some of the loudspeaker equipment will be installed on the tops of buildings, including on administrative buildings,” the Emergency Department said.
"The Ministry of Emergency Situations has made a plan for the introduction of a new alarm system that will be used to warn residents and help guide citizens in the event of an emergency. First it is planned to install the system in Astana and Almaty and use it starting from 2015," Chief of Civil Defense of Emergency Department of Almaty Yerik Alpysbayev said.
Kazakhstan now uses sirens to warn the residents of earthquakes. The signal instructs people to turn on their radio and TVs which broadcast emergency reports and offer guidelines.
The Ministry will hold a city-wide seismic training in Almaty tomorrow, on September 25, 2013. According to Newru.com, Russia is planing to create a special social network for people to warn each other and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia on emergencies and evaluate the level of threat using a special application.
