President Nursultan Nazarbayev has ordered city officials to “bring order” to the markets in Astana.
"At present, one third of 15 markets that sell food have no quality certificates from competent bodies," he said during a meeting on the ongoing development of the capital on April 25.
"First, they are working carelessly. Second, they are not paying taxes. The Eurasia Market did not pay taxes to an amount of one billion tenge. Unsanitary conditions have been observed at the Shanghai market – the bazaars along Tauelsizdik Prospect. Therefore, the city administration, the Ministry of Finance, the Agency for Consumer Protection must establish order at these markets."
The president stressed the solution does not rest in closing the markets.
"Unsanitary conditions are unacceptable," he said.
"We will restore order rather than close the markets. Taxes must be paid. The administration must show its authority."
Astana Akim, Imangali Tasmagambetov reported the quality of the services rendered and the appearance of these facilities do not meet any acceptable standards.
"But taking into account the fact that many people are working (at these places – KNL) and have businesses, we do not want to impose stringent requirements," he said. We have begun to build logistics centers. We will move seven markets there," according to Trend.
