Nazarbayev signs anti-terrorism law

05.11.2014
President Nursultan Nazarbayev November 3 approved amendments to a law fighting extremism and terrorism, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) reported on November 4, quoting his office.
The law simplifies procedures for identifying a group as terrorist or extremist, his office said. It authorises officials to shut down such groups at once and to seize their property. They will warn Kazakhstanis travelling abroad that joining a terrorist or extremist group, like those fighting in Syria, is punishable.
The document also establishes the responsibility of various officials for monitoring individuals imprisoned for terrorist acts and prohibits the entry into Kazakhstan of individuals whom Kazakhstani security agencies have linked to extremism or terrorism, KazTAG reported November 3, according to Central Asia Online.
