President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev will deliver a speech during the 70th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Tengrinews reports, citing RIA Novosti.
The Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon Stéphane Dujarric said the UN expected a record number of participants in the upcoming 70th session of the UN General Assembly scheduled to open at UN Headquarters in New York, the United States on September 15, 2015.
This week, the UN Department of Public Information also published a preliminary list of speakers during the session’s Debate that will take place from September 28 until October 6.
Around 90 world leaders will take part in the event, among them are Kazakhstan, Russia, the US, China, Brazil, Ukraine, Yemen, Iran, Libya, Palestine, Israel, the Netherlands, France, Afghanistan, Egypt, Belarus, Latvia and Serbia.
Dujarric explainedthat the list was put together based on the information submitted by the Permanent Missions to the UN. "If the permanent mission tells us that they have reserved a slot for the head of state, we take it into account," he said.
"We hope very much for the highest level of representation in the General Assembly,” Dujarric said.
According to him, this session is crucial not only because it commemorates the 70th anniversary of the UN, but also because during this session, the member states are to adopt a post-2015 Development Agenda as well as to discuss the climate change as part of preparations to the UN Climate Change Conference that is to kick off in Paris on November 30.
In addition, the Pope will address the UN General Assembly, which will be his first papal visit to the US.
This year Denmark's former foreign minister and the current speaker of parliament Mogens Lykketoft will chair the UN General Assembly along with other 19 vice-presidents, among which there will also be representative from Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports.
