Strong quake forecasted for Kyrgyzstan won't affect Kazakhstan - seismologists
05.08.2015
The strong quake (up to 9 points) which is predicted in Kyrgyzstan over the second half 2015 will not affect Kazakhstan, Tanatkan Abakanov, director of the Kazakhstani Seismology Institute claims.
"The Kyrgyz seismologists have been talking about a possible strong quake on in the Batkentsk and Osh regions on the border with Tajikistan and China. If the forecasted quakes happen there, they will not pose any danger to Kazakhstan," he said.
He added that in 2015 no quakes stronger than 7 points on the MSK-64 international scale are forecasted in the area of Almaty ‘with 70% probability’.
"Up to 4 points quakes are possible in the southeast and in the east of Kazakhstan near Zharkent city, southeast from Almaty… (nonsensical - KNL). More than 8000 quakes occur in Kazakhstan, but only 50 of these can be felt," he pointed out, according to KazTAG.
