Tajikistan is an outpost on the southern borders of the Commonwealth of Independence States, President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev said at the end of a meeting with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Dushanbe Monday.
"Tajikistan is at the forefront of the fight against terrorism. It borders Afghanistan. Tajikistan 'always has disturbances on its border with Afghanistan and the latest events have occurred with involvement of external forces," Nazarbayev stated.
Armed attacks occurred on police departments in the cities of Dushanbe and Vahdat in Tajikistan on September 4. The armed group was led by ex-Deputy Defense Minister Abduhalim Nazarzoda. Nine law enforcement officers were killed, 10 more were injured.
As a result of special operations, nearly 150 members of the group were arrested over 11 days, according to Akipress.
