Expo-2017 to address most pressing challenges of today, Lagarde says

26.05.2016
IMF Managing Director, Christine Lagarde is confident Astana Expo-2017 is topical and important. The Expo has the theme, Future Energy.
"The Astana Expo-2017 will address some of the most pressing challenges we face today--global warming, climate change, and energy security. In meeting these challenges, the IMF sees carbon pricing as the most effective policy to reduce emissions, while raising significant revenues in an administratively straightforward way and having substantial domestic health benefits. This should be front and center as countries move forward on their mitigation pledges for the landmark Paris Agreement," stated Ms. Lagarde.
Astana will host Expo-2017 from June 10 to September 10, 2017. It will last 93 days. Expo should be one of the most spectacular cultural venues in 2017. Over 85 countries and 15 international organizations have confirmed their participation.
Global policy documents will be drafted to promote energy conservation and the broad use of renewable energy. Guests will learn about green energy resources and enjoy a varied cultural and entertainment program.
Kazakhstan not only has oil and gas, but also great potential for renewable energy. It only recently started its transition to a "green" economy. Expo-2017 will set a positive example for other countries nevertheless, PR Newswire reports.
