Majilis backs Nazarbayev's moratorium on land code changes

    The Majili has approved in two readings a bill to suspend of the amendments to the Land Code adopted on November 2, media reports on Wednesday said.
    On May 6, President Nazarbayev introduced a moratorium on the amendments. The changes in legislation had sparked protests across the country.
    He urged the parliament to consider introducing of moratorium, and said that 'upon their consent, it would be clear as to whether to abolish the amendments' (original - KNL).
    The MPs specifically suspended the introduction of new rules extending land lease terms for foreigners from 10 to 25 years', Akipress reports.
