Kazak prosecutor general says terrorism major internal threat

    Terrorism is the main threat to Kazakhstan's national security, Prosecutor General Zhakip Asanov said today during a special session, TASS reports.
    "The security forces are focused on identifying and neutralising terrorists. We previously feared terrorists from the outside. Now we are facing threats within the country," he stated during a session of the Prosecutor's Office collegium that discussed the results achieved over the first six months of the year.
    According to Asanov, the role of the police increasing in present conditions. He noted that in the last five years alone, 144 police officers were killed in the country in the line on duty.
    Asanov noted the country’s national law enforcement system is capable of coping with terror and other threats and ensuring security. "We know what to do to protect the citizens, society and the state,” he said, according to Kazinform.
