Former Kazakh spy chief arrested – for spying

    Former Kazakh national security chief Nartai Dutbaev detained
    A number of officials of state bodies have been arrested, having been charged with "divulging state secrets" and "Abuse of power and official authority".
    Ex-chairman of the National Security Committee (KNC; KNB in its Russian acronym) and former adviser to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nartai Dutbaev have been detained by the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports.
    At present a pre-trial investigation against a number of government officials is going on.
    "In the course of search operations, on December 26, 2016 on suspicion of committing crimes under Article 185 Part 3 (" disclosing state secrets ") and Part 3 of Article 362 (" Abuse of power and official authority ") of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Dutbaev Nartai Nurtayevich, Hasen Nurlan Bolatuly and Nurtayev Erlan Suyumbaevich " were put under arrest,” the NSC reports.
    The persons, in accordance with Article 128 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan shall remain in the detention centre of the NSC. In the residences of the suspects and their relatives search was also carried out, and evidence seized.
    "The investigation is ongoing, its progress and results will be announced later," the NSC’s announcement read further.
