Kazakh foreign ministry looking into reports on detention of Kazakhstani suspects allegedly linked to Istanbul nightclub shooting

    Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan is looking into reports on alleged detention of Kazakhstanis involved in the Istanbul nightclub terrorist attack, press secretary of the Kazakh MFA Anuar Zhaynakov told Sputnik Kazakhstan.
    "Now we're looking into the Turkish media reports claiming that there were Kazakhstanis among the detainees," Zhaynakov told Sputnik Kazakhstan.
    Turkish news agency Dogan reported on detention of some 40 Islamic State suspects allegedly linked to the January 1 Reina nightclub massacre. They were reportedly detained early on Wednesday in the Aegean province of Izmir.
    Twenty children - nine boys and 11 girls, mostly from Eastern Turkestan, Dagestan and Kyrgyzstan - were reportedly among the detainees.
    The Reina nightclub on Istanbul's European side was attacked during New Year's eve celebrations. The attacker who remains at large has killed 39 people, including 16 foreigners, and injured 69 as a result of the attack. Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
    Initially, Turkish police suggested that the suspect may be from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan.
    On January 4, Turkish foreign minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the identity of the gunman has been established giving no further details. A manhunt is underway, AKIpress reports.
