Where Kazakhstanis’ taxes go

Finprom.kz offers an overview of the directions on which Kazakhstan taxpayers’ money is spent.

According to the results of the first two months of this year, 59.8% of the state budget expenditures went to social needs: social assistance and benefits, education and healthcare - almost a trillion tenge. The greatest growth in key areas -consumers of budgetary funds was recorded in the social assistance sector - by 19.8% per year.

The largest increase in overall budget expenditures was observed in all kinds of transfers fr om the state budget - more than 5 times, to 6.7 billion tenge (however, it is only 0.4% of budget expenditures). Expenses on housing and public utilities services increased 2.4 times, to 61.8 billion tenge.

In 2017, the total state budget expenditures amounted to 12.5 trillion tenge. This is 3.1 trillion tenge more on-year. Over the past five years, the state budget expenditures almost doubled, from 6.9 to 12.5 trillion tenge.

It should be recalled that in the structure of the state budget revenues the main share is taken by tax revenues - 59%, or KZT 6.8 trillion, according to the 2017 results.

At the end of last year, Minister of Finance Bakhyt Sultanov said that in 2018 the budget expenditures will amount to more than 9 trillion tenge. In particular, in 2018, 292.6 billion tenge will go to the development of transport infrastructure. To ensure the defense capability and security of the state, protect law and order and maintain internal stability, in 2018, KZT1.09 trillion will be budgeted (in 2019 - 1.16 trillion tenge, in 2020 - 1.22 trillion tenge).

The state budget deficit should be reduced relative to GDP from 1.1% in 2018 to 1.0% in 2019-2020, which will help keep the volume of public debt at a moderate level.
