By 2025, Kazakhstan plans to increase oil production up to 104 million tonnes per year, said Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev at the meeting in Astana.
"The volume of oil production will grow and reach 104 million tonnes per year by 2025. For this purpose, all three major projects - Tengiz, Karachaganak and Kashagan - are undergoing further expansion and production extension. In Kashagan, by 2024, it is expected to increase from 13 to 16 million tonnes per year. As for the Karachaganak project, it is planned to modernise gas capacity, construct the fourth compressor and the fifth intra-field pipeline. The deadline is 2020, the volume of investments is more than 342 million US dollar," said Bozumbayev.
In addition, according to him, more than 30 thousand Kazakhstanis are working at Tengiz under the project of future expansion.
"The investment in the project is about 38 billion US dollar, actual disboursement over two years is over 11 billion US dollar, and in 2018 the plan is over 7 billion US dollar. After 2022, oil production at Tengiz will increase from the current 27 to 39 million tonnes per year", the minister concluded.
It should be noted that in 2018 Kazakhstan plans to extract 87 million tonnes of oil. The main increase is expected due to the Kashagan field: the production plan is about 11 million tonnes.
At that, production in the Kyzylorda and Aktobe regions is expected to decline due to late development and natural depletion of these fields.
