President Nursultan Nazarbayev met with the leadership of the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana, according to the press service of Akorda.
During the meeting, Nursultan Nazarbayev pointed out that in the context of the changing geopolitical situation and new challenges, one of the main tasks of the Defense Ministry is the technological improvement and modernization of weapons.
"Therefore, I decided to appoint a civilian - Security Assistant and Secretary of the Security Council - Nurlan Ermekbayev as the Minister of Defense. He is a career officer with experience in military service, including in hot zones. He was the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the PRC and several countries of Southeast Asia, the Minister, and was twice appointed as the Secretary of the Security Council," Nursultan Nazarbayev noted. The President stressed the need to improve the training of military personnel, taking into account modern requirements.
"I want to thank Colonel-General Saken Zhasuzakov for his service, and I tasked him to head the National Defense University. The university faces great challenges in upgrading the command staff of the Armed Forces and developing military science. The university should become the main scientific and educational center," the President said.
Nursultan Nazarbayev also noted that for 25 years, thanks to the efforts of the state and personnel, the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan, which have a serious military potential, have become a reliable factor of the country's independence.
In conclusion, the President gave a number of specific instructions on further development of the Armed Forces of the country.
