During their meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of relations between the two countries in the trade, economic and investment spheres, reports the press service of Akorda.
The head of state noted that the visit of the Minister of Commerce is an important evidence of the US interest in developing cooperation with the Central Asian region, which will help strengthen mutual economic ties.
The President of Kazakhstan emphasized the results of the summit talks held during his official visit to the USA in January of this year.
“During the meeting, we reached an understanding with President Donald Trump. Kazakhstan-US relations reached the level of an expanded partnership, and a corresponding statement was signed. As part of my official visit, I met with a large group of US business captains. During the joint business forum, 27 different commercial documents were signed for the amount of 7 billion US dollars. To date, the volume of trade between our countries is about 2 billion US dollars. This year this figure has grown by 30 percent,” said Nursultan Nazarbayev.
In addition, the Head of State dwelled on the history of development of cooperation between the two countries and spoke about the agreements concluded in the early years of independence of Kazakhstan.
“After Kazakhstan abandoned nuclear weapons and closed the world's largest nuclear test site, we signed the first cooperation agreement with President George W. Bush. At the same time, Chevron expressed its intention to work in our country. The history of this company clearly shows how you can successfully conduct business in Kazakhstan,” said Nursultan Nazarbayev.
The head of state said that today Kazakhstan is pursuing a multi-vector policy and maintaining good relations with all partner countries.
In turn, Wilbur Ross thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the meeting and spoke about his impressions of visiting Astana.
“This is my first time in Kazakhstan. I was impressed by the architecture of the capital, which I saw on the way from the airport. You are actively developing construction, and, indeed, the economy is growing dynamically,” said the US Commerce Secretary.
Mr. Ross noted that a delegation from 16 American companies arrived in Astana with the intention of developing trade and economic relations with Kazakhstan.
The US Commerce Minister conveyed greetings and best wishes to President Nursultan Nazarbayev on behalf of US President D. Trump, and also expressed interest in further deepening and expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United States.
