President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev opened the latest meeting of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.
"I am glad to welcome you in Kazakhstan, in Astana, on the occasion of this CSTO summit. I express my gratitude to all members of the Collective Security Council for participating in this event today. The information of the CSTO secretariat will be heard and the chairmanship of Kazakhstan in 2018 will be summed up, topical issues of ensuring collective security in our countries will be discussed. The Kyrgyz side will also present priority areas for its chairmanship in the CSTO in 2019,” said Nursultan Nazarbayev.
He also noted that the session will provide information on the work in a wide range of areas within the CSTO, the heads of state will speak on the current international situation and topical issues of interaction, then a confidential exchange of views will take place.
The meeting of the CSTO CSC is held in the Palace of Independence, and is attended by acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Zheenbekov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon and President of Russia Vladimir Putin.
According to Deputy Secretary General of the CSTO Valery Semerikov, there are 23 issues on the agenda of the session. In a narrow composition, it is proposed to review and discuss topical issues of international and regional security and interaction of the organization’s member states in the CSTO format.
Then the meeting will continue in an expanded format with the participation of the media. A number of documents are also expected to be signed, among which are four international treaties.
After the session, President Nursultan Nazarbayev and the CSTO Deputy Secretary General Valery Semerikov are to meet with journalists.
