Kazakhstan is concluding its work in the UN Security Council, expecting that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action will continue contributing to the stability and peace in the region.
Kazakhstan views the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue as key to nuclear security in the region, a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan informs. It was said by Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to the UN Kairat Umarov, addressing at the open session of the UN Security Council.
On December 12, the UN Security Council heard the sixth biannual report of the Un Secretary-General on Resolution 2231 delivered by Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo. The session was also attended by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
"Kazakhstan once again support the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear issue and stands for his further implementation as it was said in the policy address of Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev to the UN Security Council. We are convinced of the vital role of the document in the name of the peace and stability in the region, as well as its relevance to new perspectives for cooperation with Iran in various fields," said Umarov.
The UN Secretary-General's report underlines that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is a significant achievement in the field of nuclear weapon non-proliferation, and clear testimony to effective dialogue and diplomacy. Kazakhstan is proud of the contribution it made to the negotiation process towards the elaboration of the historic agreement by holding two rounds of positive talks in Almaty back in 2013.
The head of a Kazakh delegation supported the UN Secretary-General's call to benefit from the document by all the participants and expressed solidarity with the states signed the Plan and in the aspiration towards the freedom for their economic operators in cooperation with Iran as part of the requirements of the Resolution of the UN Security Council.
Kairat Umarov also emphasized the legitimate interest of Kazakhstan in developing an active partnership with all states of the region in view of its geographical location and transit potential. A strong recovery in the trade and economic cooperation and development in the region has been observed due to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian Nuclear Issue was adopted in July 2015 in Vienna by the Heads of Foreign Ministries of USA, Russia, China, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Iran. The document was developed to find a comprehensive and final solution to this issue.
In May 2018, the USA declared the withdrawal from the Treaty and announced to resume unilateral sanctions against Iran.
In February and April 2013, the city of Almaty held two rounds of talks on the Iranian nuclear programme.
