Astana to host WTO Ministerial Conference in 2020

It is expected that the WTO Ministerial Conference will see over 4 thousand people. 

The World Trade Organization's Ministerial Conference is to take place in the summer of 2020 in the Kazakh city of Astana, Aibek Smadiyarov, Press Secretary of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry, informed at a briefing, BNews.kz correspondent reports.  

"On July 24, the WTO headquarters in Geneva held a meeting of the Organization's General Council, in which the member states unanimously approved   Kazakhstan's bid to host the 12th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization in June of 2020 in Astana," said Aibek Smadiyarov. 

The Conference is expected to bring trade ministers from 164 member states and 20 WTO observer states together, gathering over 4 thousand people. 

Note, the WTO Ministerial Conference will be held for the first time in the country that joined the WTO after its establishment in 1995, and the first in the Central Asian region to join it.
