Summarizing the two-year work in the United Nations Security Council, the head of the Kazakh legation in New York, Kairat Umarov, has outlined the coordinated work of the domestic ministries.
Kazakhstan will have a chance to become a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council after 25 years, Kazakh permanent representative to the UN Kairat Umarov told, Khabar 24reports.
According to the procedure, the members of the Kazakh Security Council are included in the Asia Pacific group with the states’ turns scheduled for decades to come.
“This is a truly national project that enabled Kazakhstan to assert itself on the powerful international site. The entire country worked as a single organism. And we asserted ourselves quite loudly, clearly, with our presidency of the UN Security Council as a major event,” said Kairat Umarov.
Confidence building measures, instruments for preventive diplomacy can serve as a starting point to achieve progress in the unresolved disputes of the political situation between the world powers. It was the topic of the high-level meeting themed “Non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons: Confidence measures” chaired by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
“We also adopted the document-statement built on the ideas of the Kazakh Head of State precisely outlined in the Manifesto “The world. The 21st century”, conveying our stance for a world free of conflicts. And we should build a conflict-free world by 2045. Another priority was the fight against counter-terrorism. Over 70 states supported and signed up to the Code of Conduct to achieve a world free of terrorism by 2045. Now the number of countries wishing to support this initiative grows,” said the head of the Kazakh legation in New York, Kairat Umarov.
A year ago, Kazakhstan’s presidency organized a visit of the members of the UN Security Council to Afghanistan. They met with the country’s leadership, representatives of the political parties and civil society.
“Another good achievement was the Afghan track. Afghanistan is close to our border. We put forward this issue to the Security Council site, where it was de-emphasized. It was actively taken up by our Central Asian neigbouring states. The idea to integrate security and development measures are reflected in the Head of State’s priorities he put forward during our remaining period in the body. Also, the creation of a model when cooperation, security and development go together in Central Asia and Afghanistan was discussed,” said Kairat Umarov.
International observers agree in their description of Kazakhstan’s successful efforts in the UN Security Council over the last two years, with the bright facts of practical implementation of all installments of President Nursultan Nazarbayev within the body. Kazakh diplomats and public authorities will continue to advance other peacekeeping initiatives within the UN and various international organizations.
