Diplomatic immunities of Kazakhstan and U.S. consuls will be enhanced. Ratification of the relevant Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the United States of America on consular privileges and immunities was approved at the plenary session in Majilis.

According to the Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, Mukhtar Tleuberdi, after the visit of Nursultan Nazarbayev to the United States in 2018, it was decided to open the Consulate General of the Republic of Kazakhstan in San Francisco, which has been successfully operating since the beginning of 2019.

"Thus, there are currently two Consulate Generals of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the USA (New York and San Francisco), in our country - the U.S. Consulate General in Almaty, the only one in Central Asia acting as a regional hub for the United States," - explained the minister.

The signed Agreement, he noted, regulates issues related to the provision of diplomatic immunity and privileges to consular officials, consular officers and members of their families.

“Namely, jurisdictional immunities, granted on a reciprocal basis, exemption from taxes, fees and duties in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961,” the Foreign Minister said.

He also stressed that implementation of the Agreement will increase the efficiency of representing and protecting the interests of Kazakhstan nationals in the United States of America.
