Head of State attended oath taking ceremony of AIFC Court Chief Justice

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev attended the official oath ceremony, by the Chief Justice of the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC)Court, Lord Mance, held in an online format.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan prioritizes formation of a modern, professional and independent judicial system that meets international standards. In this regard, the establishment of the AIFC Court at the initiative of the First President reconfirms the country's commitment to structural reforms in the judicial system.

Amid global shocks caused by the pandemic and falling oil prices, Tokayev went on to say, the role and importance of the Center in economic recovery are becoming increasingly relevant, including in attracting investment.

“AIFC should become a synonym of a reliable financial platform and enhance confidence and trust of foreign investors in Kazakhstan. In turn, being a key part of the Center’s structure, an independent common law judicial system represented by the Court plays an important role in the functioning of the AIFC and, therefore, in effective implementation of Kazakhstan’s investment program,” the President said.

At the end of the event, Tokayev thanked Lord Woolf for his personal contribution to creation of the judicial system of the Center, and wished success and fruitful work to Lord Mance as the Chairman of the AIFC Court.
