Head of State tasked Government to determine statistics on pandemic

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Government to determine methodology for statistics on coronavirus.

"The Government has been tasked with determining statistics on the pandemic. In addition to coronavirus, pneumonia causes great damage to the health and lives of the people," the President wrote on his Twitter account.

All data on the situation with the pandemic, no matter how sad they are, should be made public. The more transparency and mutual trust, the faster we will jointly cope with this disaster, Tokayev said.

There has been a rise in the number of patients with pneumonia in Kazakhstan recently. The number of registered cases of pneumonia from June 29 to July 5, 2020 made 32,083, whilst over the same period last year, there were 2507 cases of pneumonia.

The number of deaths from pneumonia from June 29 to July 5, 2020 stands at 415.

The World Health Organization believes that the outbreak of pneumonia is likely a coronavirus infection. This was stated by the executive director of the WHO program, Michael Ryan.
