Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had a telephone talk with the Lebanese President Michel Aoun.
Tokayev expressed deep condolences and asked to convey words of support to the families of those killed in the tragedy in the port of Beirut, and also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Given that the blast wave caused damage to the building of Kazakhstan diplomatic mission, and its employee was slightly injured, the President of Kazakhstan made a request to Michel Aoun to ensure the safety of our citizens (more than 200 people) in Beirut, including 120 Kazakhstan peacekeepers doing their duty as part of the UN Interim Force in southern Lebanon.
During the conversation, views were exchanged on the further expansion of Kazakh-Lebanese relations. According to Tokayev, Lebanon is an important partner of Kazakhstan in the Middle East.
In turn, Michel Aoun thanked the President of Kazakhstan for the phone call, promising that the country's authorities will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of citizens and the diplomatic mission of Kazakhstan.
The Lebanese President reaffirmed his interest in close joint work with a view to building up bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
He highly appreciated the peacekeeping activities of Kazakhstan within the UN mandate in maintaining regional and global security.
