At the opening of the XXIX session of Kazakhstan People’s Assembly, Nursultan Nazarbayev transferred the KPA leadership to President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
"This is a serious step for me, an emotional one, as since 1995 I have been at the origins of the KPA and led its work. I thank all members of the Assembly for their constant support of my course and me personally all the years of work," Nazarbayev said.
He stressed that over the years of Independence, the KPA had proved in practice its historical mission. In turn, President Tokayev invited Nazarbayev to become the honorary chairman of the KPA.
