Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting on the election of rural akims with participation of heads of the regions and cities of republican scale, as well as the leadership of the Presidential Administration and the Government.
Opening the event, the President noted the importance of the upcoming electoral campaign, given that over 40% of Kazakhstan population lives in rural districts. Elections of akims, he added, are held, first of all, in the interests of the residents of these settlements.
He focused on party competition to strengthen the institutional integrity of the state and contribute to a more open political process.
At the same time, the President pointed out the high responsibility of the executive bodies in the regions.
"Akims are direct representatives of state power in each locality. The public evaluates efficiency of the entire state management system, basing on the akims’ performance. That is why it is very important to properly organize the upcoming elections," he said, reminding that first of all, elections of 729 rural akims will be held, and by the end of the year another 46 heads of local authorities will be elected.
Addressing the heads of the regions, the President set a number of important tasks for them.
In particular, they concern the epidemiological situation, including with the possible appearance of coronavirus Indian strain in our country, and called for stepping up preventive work to combat corruption, take comprehensive measures to ensure readiness for prompt elimination of the consequences of emergencies.
Preparations for the new academic year need be started, which will be held in full mode now, after more than a year-long idling of many educational institutions.
Progress reports were made at the meeting, by the governors of: Almaty region Amandyk Batalov, Turkestan region Umirzak Shukeyev, Zhambyl region Berdibek Saparbayev, Aktobe region Ondasyn Urazalin and Akmola region Yermek Marzhikpayev on preparations for the upcoming elections of district akims.
